Written by A.R. Gurney in 1988, the play was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It explores the relationship between Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III through their correspondence over nearly 50 years. At times humorous, at times poignant, the play is often presented around Valentine's Day.
